Q: Based on your reading, what motivated American involvement in World War II? Make sure that in your answer you discuss factors that led to war with both Germany and Japan.

A: America did not want to enter this war. They had held strong to the idea that they would remain neutral, and not get involved. They tried making their point clear with the Neutrality Acts, but it just didn't work out. The Americans wanted to get into the war with the Japanese after Pearl Harbor. They felt that after something like that occurs, it would be stubborn not to do something about it. However, this attack did not come unprovoked. The Americans had been trading military equipment to the British, and the Axis powers did not approve. As for the Germans, the Americans felt that Hitler would continue his conquest and was seemingly drunk with power. They felt the only way that the Allied Powers could stop him was if they had an intervention.
